Authorities say raging forest fires have led to the evacuation of some 2,000 people from a town in the centre of Spain's popular tourist island of Tenerife.
Emergency services spokeswoman Carmina Lorenzo said residents were evacuated from Vilaflor on the fringe of the Teide National Park on Tuesday night.
The fires broke out on Sunday and have spread with strong winds and high temperatures, regional authorities said. It has affected some 2,000 hectares (5,000 acres), close to the popular tourist Teide park.
The regional government stressed that the island's popular beaches were not affected by the fire, which has struck mountainous and wooded terrain inland, and that tourist activity was normal.
Emergency services "are evacuating residents from Vilaflor due to the advance of the fire from the east," the regional government said in a statement on Tuesday evening.
However, Carmina Lorenzo, emergency services spokeswoman, said on Wednesday the park itself was not threatened.
